Decision about school on Friday, March 22, to be made by 6 p.m.

The shelter-in-place for the City of Deer Park has been lifted, and La Porte ISD is continuing to monitor a variety of factors related to this week's fire. A decision about whether or not school will be held on Friday, March 22, will be made by 6 p.m. today (Thursday, March 21).

La Porte ISD cancels school, extracurricular activities for Thursday

Due to a change in conditions around the site of this week's fire, and in an abundance of caution, La Porte ISD is canceling school for Thursday, March 21. Neither students nor employees should report. All extracurricular activities are also canceled. — The City of Deer Park is currently under a shelter in place, and Highway 225 is closed between Highway 146 and Beltway 8 in both directions. Air quality monitoring is being conducted in Deer Park and La Porte at this time. Please monitor local media or readyharris.org for updates. Spell Lobo: Lomax Jr. High student wins 2019 spelling bee

Lomax Junior High School seventh grader Amy Du is the winner of this year’s La Porte ISD Spelling Bee, held on Feb. 21 at the LPISD Administration Building. Samuel Quinones, Heritage Elementary School fifth grader, was the runner-up, and Joseph Sommer, eighth grader at La Porte Junior High School, was the second runner-up. (more...)
