The district’s Early Childhood Center will provide services for families who live within La Porte ISD, and for the children and grandchildren of district employees. The facility is located at Heritage Elementary School, and will operate 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
In addition to child care for children as young as six weeks, the Early Childhood Center will also offer an instructional technology curriculum for children ages 3-5, and multi-subject instruction for prekindergarten 3, 4, and 5-year-olds from a certified teacher.
“Our focus is on literacy skills, vocabulary, math concepts, social and emotional skills,” said Jewel Whitfield, La Porte ISD director of elementary education and ECC co-director. “But we will also work on decision-making and problem-solving skills.”
The facility features secure classrooms with security cameras and a covered outdoor play area. There is also a nurse on-site.
“This is a facility with a comprehensive capacity for early childhood education and child care expertise,” Whitfield said. “It is specifically designed to meet the needs of early learners.
The ECC rates are competitively priced and do not require supply fees. Discounts are offered for multi-child enrollment, and payroll deduction is available for La Porte ISD employees.
