Schoppe takes the district's AD reins

La Porte High School principal Todd Schoppe has been named the new director of athletics and physical education for La Porte ISD. In this role, Schoppe will provide leadership for the district’s physical education, health and athletic department for prekindergarten through 12th grades.

La Porte ISD expands District of Innovation plan

The district has made two changes to the Board-approved District of Innovation plan: adding an exemption for teacher certification to include Languages Other Than English (LOTE); and adding flexibility to the teacher appraisal system (T-TESS). Thursday cancellations

La Porte ISD is canceling all student activities, including summer school, STAAR/EOC re-testing and camps, for Thursday, June 22.
-- For those students scheduled to participate in the STAAR/end of course re-testing on Thursday, this has been rescheduled for Friday morning at 8 a.m. Please arrive at Viola DeWalt High School by 7:45 a.m. If you scheduled transportation for Thursday, it will still be available on Friday.
-- Credit recovery classes also will be held on Friday, June 23.
-- La Porte Junior High School will be open on Friday, June 23, for junior high school students (Lomax Junior High and La Porte Junior High) who need to make up the STAAR.
-- The make-up day for elementary ELL (English Language Learners) summer school at Bayshore Elementary will be Friday, June 23.
-- La Porte High School ACE (Accelerated College Education) students will have class on Thursday, June 22, unless notified otherwise by San Jacinto College. Transportation will be provided as usual.

Free summer meals for kids and teens

Breakfast and lunch will be available at three La Porte ISD campuses beginning June 5. Please view this article for details. ~ The City of La Porte is also offering free breakfast (8-9 a.m.) and lunch (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) each Mon-Fri between July 3 -
Aug. 11 at the Charles Walker Community Center, 322 N. 4th St. Children 18 and under may participate.
